Director of Systems and Cloud Engineering

As the Director of Systems and Cloud Engineering, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and management of our systems and cloud infrastructure. You will lead a team of skilled engineers and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the stability, scalability, and security of our systems and cloud-based services. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and a deep understanding of cloud architecture and infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute the overall systems and cloud engineering strategy, in alignment with the company's goals and objectives.
  • Lead and manage a team of systems and cloud engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations.
  • Design, implement, and maintain the company's systems and cloud infrastructure, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including architecture, software engineering, operations, and security, to ensure smooth integration and operation of systems and cloud services.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies, tools, and methodologies to improve system performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Define and enforce system and cloud engineering best practices, standards, and policies.
  • Oversee system monitoring and troubleshooting activities, ensuring timely resolution of issues and minimizing downtime.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans for systems and cloud infrastructure.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in systems and cloud engineering, and apply them to enhance our infrastructure and services.
  • Collaborate with vendors and service providers to manage relationships and ensure service-level agreements are met.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • Proven experience (5 - 10+ years) in systems and cloud engineering, with a focus on designing and managing scalable and secure cloud infrastructure, with minimum 4 years experience working with Azure
  • Minimum of 5 years managing a team.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing and hands-on experience of migrating workloads to Azure.
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, and hands-on experience with cloud services, virtualization, and containerization technologies.
  • Experience with cloud automation, including CD/CI pipelines using PowerShell, ARM, Terraform, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Docker, GitOps, Azure DevOps.
  • Experience of working with Virtual Machines, Azure Site Recovery, Azure Functions, Azure Automation, App Service, Scale Sets, Azure DevOps, Azure Policy, Azure Monitor, Azure Backup, Azure storage, Application Gateway, Azure DNS, Load Balancer.
  • Desirable experience of Machine Learning, Logic Apps, API Management, Service Bus, Event Grid, Data Factory, Azure Stream Analytics, Azure Analysis Services, Event Hubs.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, and firewalls.
  • Experience with configuration management and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Terraform).
  • Experience working in an Agile SCRUM environment
  • Deep knowledge of system monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on delivering innovative and efficient solutions.
  • Proficient at multitasking and proactive in work responsibilities

Additional Skills:

  • Working knowledge of at least one configuration management tool, such as Ansible, Chef, and/or Puppet
  • Working experience with JavaScript Frameworks (Angular), RESTful APIs, JSON and XML
  • Possess an understanding of system testing including platform, integration, load testing.
  • Ability to write technical documentation (platform architecture, strategy, etc.)
  • Ability to work on multiple concurrent complex projects and to coordinate the work of others in the cloud environment.
